Video Input Detection #9

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start up Genesis Plus GX
2. Select a game to load or
make a save state/load state
3. Watch the transition of
video modes

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
So, I'm not sure if this is a bug, so I'll ask
here. What I'm talking about is, why is it that when
ever you access the menu (during and after a ROM load)
the screen flickers for a couple of seconds and tells
me over and over what mode it's(TV/emu)in? From what I can
see, it seems to be telling me the video the emulator
detected. What I'm afraid of is this is either going to
A - give me a headache or B - somehow ruin the TV (from
switching to the menu mode from game mode). So, is there
any way to force the emulator to not flicker and stay
in one mode/prevent this from happening? Sounds like
it may be a normal emulator function but, I could be wrong.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
26/08/2008 (most recent)

Please provide any additional information below.
I just need some reassurance that this is normal or
if it's a bug.

i presume you have a pal wii and are running pal megadrive games ?

what happen is that the emulator automatically switch the TV mode to 50hz when
playing
PAL games and to 60hz in menu...

if you don't like that (however, it does not harm your eyes neither your tv
unless you
keep going to the menu every 3 seconds, do you ?), use NTSC version of games or
force the
TV mode to 60HZ instead of 50/60hz in the emulator's video options...

forget to add: the "video information" comes from your tv which probably
display it each
time video mode is changing, this certainly can be disabled in your tv settings

lastly, if the problem is not due to PAL stuff, then it's maybe because the
game runs in
240p video mode and the menu in 480i... in all case, this is not a bug at all,
just the
way we use 2 different modes: set render option to "BILINEAR" if you don't want
the
emulator to use original video mode

if your Wii is set to use 480p, then set RENDER option to PROGRESSIV
This way, the TV mode won't change between menu & gameplay

If you want to have the feeling playing the original thing, ORIGINAL render is
the
best way to go though, this absolutely does not harm your TV if it supports it
(if it
doesn't, you only got "invalid signal", go back to the menu using HOME button
and
choose a supported RENDER mode)
