Bugfix: Freeze in Jabu Jabu's belly in Zelda Ocarina of time #229

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Enter Jabu Jabu's belly as young Link for the fist time.

2. Go straight forward. Open the first door, continue forward along the
ledge, go into the door. Watch the holes in the floor and continue
forward. Open the door.

3. It's different from time to time how long it takes before freeze
(instant or like after 20-40 seconds). The Wii freezes and requires a
reset by holding the power button. I have also had severe texture
glitches, everything turned white and pixelish but you could still see the
models, and eventually freeze.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
That the game wouldn't freeze / that the textures won't go glitchy.

What version of the product are you using? On which system and loader?
 - Using a valid ROM I have tried on the PC/project64, which works.
   through the game.
 - Wii System Menu 4.2E.
 - HBC v1.0.6, IOS v21.29

Please provide any additional information below.
For details about the exact room I'm referring to, see this video at 5:20.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOgGUkHB9ts

I've tried using both dynarec and pure interpret, as well as changing all
the available video settings and to disable the sound. I suspect the
glitch is triggered somehow by the snake creatures coming from the floor
but can't be sure.

Quick question, was this with wii64 1.0 or 1.1?

Wii 64 1.1

I don't know why but I got around it in jabu jabus belly by talking to the
princess first or grabbed her with
me if I remember right.

I got the same glitchy textures and freeze bug when I entered burning kakariko
village though. Just after
completing the water temple. Couldn't get around it this time because the
freezing occurs in the actual
cinematic with the shadow rising from the well.

I've also got the bug when I've entered the potion shop in kakariko village as
both young and adult link.
And the final place I've experienced the bug is at the store next to the one
where you buy the hylian
shield as young link.

I could take a photo of it and attach if that would interest you?

A photo would be great, but I think we know the issue here :)

Please attach a save too (.sra will do).

Alright, I've attached a saved game. Just go directly from The Temple of Time
to
Kakariko village, and you should get a freeze at a certain point in the
cinematic.

Tried three times and the textures went glitchy one of these times. Got a short
clip
showing it too :) Hope it helps, thanks for the bugsolving guys.

Could it be possible that the game's region is the problem? I played through
OoT Master Quest without the game freezing or crashing. They are two different
games, but they are almost the same one.

It can't be a region problem, because as well as these I have found that there
is another freeze issue in Ganon's Castle in the Spirit room. This is from
using the original (U) version (American Gold Cartridge I believe) on Wii64
ß1.1

With the save data I've provided, (make sure you're using File 1) all you need
to do is enter Ganon's Castle and enter the spirit room (first door to the left
in the main room) solve all the puzzles and just as you open the last door to
destroy the spirit barrier the game will freeze with the same white pixilated
graphical bug, no matter what settings you put on.

I've attached the save game and save state, although make sure Pure Interpreter
is on before you load the state as it will crash under Dynarec for some reason.
I am also unsure if these will only work on the version of Ocarina Of Time I am
using, seeing as there about around 10 different versions it wouldn't surprise
me.
(rather frustrating actually, I've been wanting to play through this game again
since both my GCN and Wii drives had died)

If you experienced the same glitches as I did, how did you get past the
kakariko well cinematic? :) It's almost a year since I got stuck there, but I'd
be glad if I could continue from there.

I went into the potion shop next to the the place you get your Hylian shield as
young Link and the game froze. In Jabu Jabu's Belly without Ruto the game froze
in that room you described. My last freeze is in the spirit room I've explained
above, which I should experiment with ie. disabling other barriers first and
see if it makes a difference, getting the golden gauntlets first, changing what
I've got equipped etc. etc.

The most annoying freeze is the cinematic one, because I had sat there for
about an hour, just beaten the water temple and gone straight to Kakariko,
watched the cinematic and BOOM the game simply froze without the pixilation. I
had to do it all again, and the Water Temple is the last thing anyone wants to
do twice in a row.

Anyways, I got prepared next time after doing it all again by saving just
before I went into Kakariko, going into the Wii64 menu, making a save state,
restarting the game and then after loading my state it worked.
I had FB textures (only), Dynarec, Rumble Pak, GCN controller (whatever might
make it work, as I don't know the cause, I'm always on these settings)

Either I got lucky, you're unlucky, or both. If none of that works I'll try
your saves and if I manage to pass the cinematic I'll attach saves for you to
keep going. If I can't then it's definitely a version problem.
