Real GBA/GBC/GB screen size (Pixel Perfect with NO stretch) #329

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Describe the enhancement desired or suggested change:

Is there a way of having GBA, GBC and GB screens to display on their native
real pixel size resolution? As far as I noticed, the emulator stretches the
image filling up the screen - breaking the correct pixels aspect ratio.

It could be great to have the screen running on a real size, and also, to get
the 240p support (for CRT 480i TVs) just like NES and SNES have. NES and SNES
are simply perfect, the pixel aspect ratio is superbly correct and they are
amazingly AS IS the original consoles.

Please use labels and text to provide additional information.

I can provide any help if needed, just like testing dev versions, info on GBA,
GBC and GB screensizes, etc etc. I have been behind such request for many
consoles during the Xbox 1 Scene epoch, and I even have a complete site with
some useful information on Pixel Perfect settings. Please feel free to take a
look here - http://fancyxbox.info/?doc=1&secao=screen

Please note THERE IS NO COMMERCIAL DOWNLOADS, NO ROMS, etc. It's just INFO and
downloadable skins.

Dear dborth,

After your negative feedback I decided to inspect the emulator deeper, once
more, and surprisingly I found a solution for my problem/feature request! It's
so simple! I think it is important to mention it here:

The solution resides on the ZOOM option.
YES! Right on the spot...

For a 480i CRT TV, if you turn FILTERING OFF and adjust
image zoom to 75% you will have a perfect 1x1 pixel screen aspect ratio,
no distortion, no artifacts, superbly correct!
WOW... I am very happy about this...

The only thing I miss now is the "240p" effect, just like NES and SNES (and
most Virtual Console) provide. But since you already said "WontFix" I will let
my hope go down, after all the most urgent part was the pixel perfect issue,
and now it is solved!

Best Regards!
Cospefogo.

Cospefogo, you should check the information I posted over on the WiiBrew wiki
Discussion page for vbagx:

If you've only set your horizontal scaling to 75%, you're only half done, heh.
You also need to set a vertical scaling factor too, in order to make it perfect.

Hi Aaron! It's very nice to meet someone else as picky as me when regarding
correct pixel aspect ratio. And yes... I found out my settings by reducing to
75% on width and 75% on height... horizontal + vertical indeed.

Anyway, thanks soooooo much for your link. I have been requesting such
information for many weeks... I am suprised to not come across that discussion
page earlier. I will test that settings tonight!

Best regards,
Cospefogo.
