It is proposed to add another level of metadata in form of STAC-like metadata sidecar files. E.g.
STAC metadata will shadow GDAL metadata.
One big advantage over the GDAL metadata is, that we can edit the STAC file while the raster is opened inside QGIS!
We try to use as many already existing STAC extensions as possible, e,g, EO and Timestamps:
In case of missing keys, we will add our own keys under the "enmapbox" field name prefix. E.g.
