Unusual handling of "The [artist]" and "[artist]" songs #95

There's an issue (found on both the Market and beta versions) where two artists
who have a name differing only by "The " at the front of one will only have one
entry in the Artists view (for example "The Enemy" and "Enemy", which only
shows "The Enemy"). Then when you press on that artist, it will only show the
songs for "The Enemy", with the only way to find the songs by "Enemy" being to
search.

Are you using iTunes? Could iTunes be Stripping the "The" sending it out?
Definitely worth investigating.

Any update on this issue?

Happens to me too. I'm fairly certain I had this problem with my iPod, so it
may be how iTunes reports the artist. I'll check it out on my iPod later and
definitely look into this.

Here is a post I found from 2007 about itunes...

"Note that iTunes will give you control over how things are sorted. The last
few iTunes releases include sorting options which become part of each song's
tag. So, you can choose to include or exclude "The" in the sorting (or any
other word or character). Whatever sorting you choose, the song or artist will
appear "normal" but will be sorted however you define it to be. These sort
option settings can apply to a song name, artist, album, album artist,
composer, or show, giving you complete control over how things appear."

Do you know where this option is? I've never seen anything like that.

I believe it is part of the ID3 Tag spec according to this post so you would
have to update that Artist in iTunes.

I am going to Mark Invalid because this is an ITunes issue not a TR+ issue as
my MonkeyTunes does not have this issue. So it is clearly iTunes mucking it at
the server before it sends it to TR+
