Hello Chris, I was looking where to put this in the ontology... Looking at the rock node. And at available definitions and terms that already exist under 'rock'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calcareous Calcareous refers to a sediment, sedimentary rock, or soil type which is formed from or contains a high proportion of calcium carbonate in the form of calcite or aragonite.

And we have Limestone: wikipedia definition: Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed largely of the mineral calcite (calcium carbonate: CaCO3).

Definitions at: http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Glossary\_of\_Geological\_and\_other\_Scientific\_terms\_used\_in\_Principles\_of\_Geology Calcareous rock. Limestone. Etym., Calx, lime.

From this, at least, these are looking kind of synonymous, what is your opinion.

Cheers, Lynn

ah ok, synonym should be fine. Forget my exact use for this, think it was for annotating the GSC/GOLD table

I think we should add calcareous to PATO and then, perhaps, create a class in ENVO that can be populated by inference.

PATO:0001447 ! calcified

Note that I originally requested this (2008!) to map GOLD, but this is probably superseded by #101
