Since ENVO is linked to the OBO ontologies, probably look at re-using a term from one of those, e.g. http://purl.obolibrary.org/obo/NCIT_C48058
Greetings all,
We can import PATO's energy (http://purl.obolibrary.org/obo/PATO_0001021) which is more compatible with OBO semantics. You can of course use this directly in PATO.
If you'd like terms that reference the energy in an environmental entity, we can import and provide those.
NCIT is more a thesaurus and still seems to need a lot of alignment.

What sorts of classes would you need specifically @misayasu?
NCIT is actually well-axiomatized in the area of disease and cancer specifically. But due to its varied use cases it covers many different areas of biology and beyond. The general plan is to allow selective swapping out of areas with OBOs, you can see on http://obofoundry.org/ontology/ncit.html ncit-plus has the anatomy swapped out for Uberon/CL - we should do the same for PATO
Hello,
Sorry for my late response. I was thinking about 'energy' related to the the first law of thermodynamics, earth's energy balance, etc. because I'm working on terms related to the environment. Also, I am working on radiation/nuclear contamination ontology so another 'energy' would relate to 'power' (some dictionaries say 'energy = power').
But 'energy' can have various definitions so I am not sure how you would handle ... 'capacity to do work' sounds like fitting all.
Best, Misa

I am working on radiation/nuclear contamination ontology
Very cool, much needed. Will this be something we can import/link to? You may want to check out our process-based representation of radiation processes: http://purl.obolibrary.org/obo/ENVO_01001023
(some dictionaries say 'energy = power').
That's quite scary. Power is the rate at which work is performed. Quite different.
@misayasu pinging this issue again. If there are any terms you need for environments or environmental processes relevant to nuclear contamination, do let us know. Is your ontology live yet? Would be interesting to see!
energy classes for review: #634
Shall we close this ticket now we have energy and subclasses? Open new tickets for specific subclasses?
This looks great. Thank you.
Best, Misa

This ticket has been open a long time. Sorry for coming to the party late .... I can see how potential energy fits under disposition, but energy simpliciter seems odd. Dispositions are realized in process, but what realizes energy (simpliciter)?
Energy is fundamental to understand the environmental phenomena but the term is not defined. Suggestion: energy (physics)= def. capacity that is to do work and may exist in potential, kinetic, thermal, electrical, chemical, nuclear, or other various forms. (https://www.britannica.com/science/energy)
