Hi @TrisSN
Note that all new PURLs mentioned below will become resolvable on our next release. You can, however, use them for annotation.
I've added this as a process under anthropisation class.
It has the following PURL: http://purl.obolibrary.org/obo/ENVO_01001431 I've based the definition on the above and some resources we've found from national land use classification systems (they generally converge):
An anthropogenic environmental process which includes all human activities undertaken in a natural, semi-natural, or anthropised environment.
It's shorter as I've interwoven the semantics of this term with land consumption
, land degradation
, land conversion process
, and active ecosystem management process
. These terms cover the other angles of the definition and unpack it a little.
I've also added a bunch of sublcasses under planned environmental usage process
(see table below) so you to have the option of more resolution when classifying data sets. This is based on a document from the UK Government with many definitions adapted from GEMET, but the system overlaps with most others I've seen.
If you need another class or more specific classes please let us know. Note that not all of them are "land" use classes as some are valid both on land and in aquatic settings. All of these should work for your data sets, however.
Further places you may find land use terms:
Hi, I'm a metadata curator at Scientific Data. Recently we've had need for the term 'land use' several times.
NTR: land use Definition: Land use involves the management and modification of natural environment or wilderness into built environment such as settlements and semi-natural habitats such as arable fields, pastures, and managed woods. It also has been defined as "the total of arrangements, activities, and inputs that people undertake in a certain land cover type." [Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_use] synonyms: land exploitation
Thanks, Tris
