What change would like to see?

I would like to see the currently selected board and serial port displayed in 
the icon bar at the top of the window

Why?

When working with multiple boards it would help

Would this cause any incompatibilities with previous versions?  If so, how
can these be mitigated?

No, this is cosmetic only.
