Thoughts on a Mobile App? #137

I think I might write a Steemit article sometime soon to expand on this, but what do you guys think about having an official GridCoin mobile app? I have developed mobile apps (only on Android so far) with more than 150,000 total downloads. The apps I currently have mostly just aggregate sports news, but I think I could develop an app for GridCoin that could do pretty well.

It could have multiple "tabs" that contain whatever information we'd like. Here are some examples:

The possibilities are many. Pretty much any mobile-friendly page we can add to our website can be a tab on the app.

Here's where it gets interesting: we can run simple banner ads on this app to capture some monetization. What if we took that advertising revenue and used it to purchase GRC to "burn?" This way we could use these revenues to battle against inflation. If we could get 1,000 people to download the app, I'm pretty confident the advertising revenue (while nothing to write home about) could be at least $100-200/month. We could either burn GRC with those funds, or purchase GRC for the foundation to aid in further development. We would just need a trusted person to own the Google Adsense account that captures the revenue.

Just putting a feeler out there for now. I'll expand more with a Steemit article later. Basically in my experience, people love it when there's an official app they can download to keep up-to-date on things. It adds legitimacy to a project (indicates you're modern/innovative) and allows you a very direct line of communication with your users/community/investors. I could lead the development of the app (basically using the same code for other apps in my portfolio, ported over for this use) and would only need some minor web development help from others.

Must also display project statistics table like on gridcoinstats. A block explorer might also be good. How about display the age of the latest SB? Might be far-fetched, but how about display details of CPID data found in NN?

I think an app for GRC related news would be nice. In general I'd like to see some official news stream that informs about relevant changes/issues/etc.

For example, I just joined GitHub and Slack today and I'm now slowly catching up on everything, especially on the superblock issue which I did not hear anything about until yesterday casually browsing /r/gridcoin.

For people already involved in the project for some time, they probably know where to get information but as newbie one is lost rather fast - also the cryptocurrency forum doesn't seem to be that active atm, it's basically just used to get free GRC as far as I can tell.

@XaqFields Thanks for your suggestions. I've already made my own database to host Team Gridcoin stats. In fact, there's a daily new users report now posted every day on Steemit which uses this newly-made database

I'll be updating my app soon to include the new stuffs that has been happening lately in the Gridcoin Community.

I also have the Gridcoin Hangouts app which streams audio from the Gridcoin Hangouts SoundCloud account here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mcr.gridcoin.hangouts

Last but not least, Gridcoin Remote, where you can see basic information from your GRC wallet running on your PC: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mcr.apps.gridcoinremote (Yeah, I know... I need to add the magnitude 😂)
