why should a charity accept GRC, when they already offer BTC ? they might say: "Just give us BTC"

Because I'd be donating GRC not BTC; I can go elsewhere for my donation if they don't want it.

The coinpaymnets.net website has many options for creating donation buttons which support gridcoin.

This was originally Mercosity's idea/task.

from chat:

barton26: Erkan_Yilmaz, I'm sorry if this sounds dumb, but how does getting a charity to accept GRC help our marketing? barton26: it's not really going to increase awareness, if anything it creates an artificial sell pressure on the coin Erkan_Yilmaz: in simplest form the stakeholders, ... of that charity know about Gridcoin, but we can also use it in press or so like: hey, we support charity XYZ with BOINC project ABC or donations via our pool Erkan_Yilmaz: and when we can tie the topic of the charity in similar ideas, then even much more Erkan_Yilmaz: the basic idea is that the initial partnership with them might open up more doors later on

barton26: do we even know if any charities (good ones) support altcoins? Erkan_Yilmaz: see the linked forum there, I don't think that has been investigated yet

Erkan_Yilmaz: the specific audio parts are just 12 mins Erkan_Yilmaz: good to listen here to get an idea

barton26: Erkan_Yilmaz, I just checked that forum list real quick and none of the reputable charities (ones I'd even heard of before) accept any coins other than BTC barton26: if they don't accept, for example, litecoin or something it would be very hard to get them to accept GRC Erkan_Yilmaz: I think, having a list is good, but we only need ONE charity at begin Erkan_Yilmaz: when we have 1 and can always present that in the next emails to other charities they might be more willing Erkan_Yilmaz: more efforts now to get 1 charity, and the others later on will be easier to convince barton26: But we need a good charity. Something people will recognize and has good ratings (charityNavigator etc.)

Getting GRC accepted anywhere is a good thing.

If someone donates GRC & the website posts a message to their community about it that's good exposure.

Having a 'GRC accepted here' donation button is good advertising for normal users to find out about Gridcoin.

Ultimately, it doesn't hurt anyone to try and get GRC added to charities. Just because charities have thus far only accepted GRC that doesn't mean they won't accept GRC.

Coming into an AMA-styled discussion or going into r/AMA with a charity (or having already done our donations) is just one way we're able to help gain exposure for the efforts of the charity among our own.

hello, I have been asked to see what i can do in having GRC accepted for charitable donations. i have a lot of dealings with charitable groups and could see if it would be possible to see if they can add the button to accept grid coins and the different aspects of running boinc and a wallet vs. just keeping the donated GRC in an account. If a charity accepts GRC it also legitimatises GRC as a real choice along with BTC as payment. it helps add credibility to GRC and is a good thing to accomplish.

A quick search yeilded these links. First two are a list of multiple orgs that take BTC the other 2 are direct links to orgs that accept BTC donation as well. This would be a good place to start since they already accept crypto. Another good way to promote would be ask around at orgs that are directly related to WCG and other projects research (cancer fields, zika, TB etc)

I propose a youtube video being made teaching people how to set up and accept GRC. Perhaps make a guide or some sort of featured article on gridcoin.us

Hi,

one of my favorite charity organizations is "Save the children". Due to other projects i have a good insight in their practices. They cooperate witch gaming for good (gamingforgood.net) and are open for new ideas. Maybe someone can contact them. They already accept BTC and with the aspect, that many boinc projects are researching in fields they are fighting against (HIV, ebola etc) they maybe consider to accept GRC too.

Here a link from the gaming for good context http://www.savethechildren.org/site/c.8rKLIXMGIpI4E/b.8943307/k.4297/Thank_You_for_Your_Bitcoin_Donation.htm

There are several charities that use coinpayments that we could contact to add GRC support.. that'd be the fastest way to start supporting charities
