1.9.2.7-rtn-r3300 can't boot up #259

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. Try upgrading via web from 1.9.2.7-rtn-r2972 to 1.9.2.7-rtn-r3300.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Expected firmware update and reboot after 3—5 minutes.

Actually:

1. Got "please wait" message.
2. wifi indicator turned off after ~1 minute.
3. Power indicator is on, one of lan ports is on and blinking.
4. Turned off power after 10 minutes of waiting.
5. Turned power on again. Got the same power indicator is on, one of lan ports
is on and blinking.
6. Can't ping router.
7. Tried upgrading to 1.9.2.7-rtn-r3300 using tftp. Got the same state as in #4
and #5.
8. Tried downgrading to 1.9.2.7-rtn-r2972 using tftp. Got fully functional
device after power off - power on.

First of all, you didn't provide your router model.

In case of you load any external modules at post-boot (or any other startup
script), don't forget to update it.

P.S. It is unreproducible on WL500gPV1, RT-N16

Sorry, it's WL500gPV1.

You mean I need to update flashfs configs prior to updating to 3300? What
should I change there? Any reference?

No, I mean that custom startup scripts can cause router not to boot properly.
My guess - old/incompatible kernel modules. But I can be wrong.

I have only one similar report from WL700g owner - boot stuck at startup
procedures in "rc", while kernel loads okay.

That can be the case. When I've configured it for the first time it was Oleg's
firmware and I've used some old tutorials to enable SSH etc. I'm not that good
with unix to find what's wrong myself in a reasonable amount of time so will
stay at 2972 for now.

Thanks for your help.

If you will have time, please check night builds r3276 & r3284:
http://asus.vectormm.net/rtn/3276/wl/
http://asus.vectormm.net/rtn/3284/wl/

If first one(r3276) works but later one(r3284) not, than we have problem with
nfs. It also complained in wl500g.info forum by one WL700g customer.

We have three similar bugreports. On results of preliminary investigation, it
is a bug in new uClibc ld.so code

Sorry, I have a trip currently and can't check these nigtly builds. At least
before Monday.

@dmg, it seems you have the same problem. Can you try firmwares from
http://code.google.com/p/wl500g/issues/detail?id=259#c5 ?

Why you add useless comments without reading the issue? It is bugtracker, not
LJ or forum??!
