Problem #3

Hi

Sorry for my English, I'm French and I speak very bad English. I installed this software on Windows.

The software is very simple to use, but sometimes this program stops when I run a second analysis.

I put 600 pictures, does the software support a limited number of pictures or is it sensitive to the size of the photo folders. Some photos are over 10,000 MB, is this a problem, should I change the image resolution.

Or is the problem somewhere else?

The software is sensitive to the size of the photos. The larger the photo, the more memory hotspotter will require.

Also, hotspotter is deprecated and no longer maintained. If possible, you should use https://github.com/Erotemic/ibeis instead. Unfortunately the new program only works on Linux, but if you are on Linux you can simply pip install ibeis to install the application.

Unfortunately I only work on windows,

What would be the best image resolution and how many photos can the software support?

Finally, would the program work better on a more powerful computer?

Note that HotSpotter does have a nasty bug where it occasionally will lose track of an image and you need to manually fix the CSV files before it will open again. This bug does not exist in IBEIS, so I strongly recommend upgrading. I would recommend using a Linux virtual machine if you prefer to work on Windows.

A higher resolution is generally better, but there can be diminishing returns. It can run on 400x400 chips, but I've found good results at 750x750. It also depends on the species of animal being identified. It could be the case that 200x200 works best, but I wouldn't be able to know without doing the experiments, so I can't answer this question with confidence.

A more powerful computer (i.e. more RAM) will allow for larger databases. I don't have exact numbers for any of these.

Good morning,

Thank you for your help, I will continue with this version, I can't do otherwise.

I also wanted to know what these files were used for: Backup_v0.10; image_table; chip_table; name_table.

and the subfolders of : cache; feats; query result.

When I validate a match I would like it to be the name of the two images next to each other in ecxel. I would also want to highlight the day and place for each picture. Is this possible.

The files said above, are scattered, can I put them all together in the same ecxel or access folder? In addition to putting the information said above?

Thank you for your answer,

Yours sincerely, Johan Giupponi
