I'm having the same problem. Is it not working in all versions of java 7? or
just in update 4?

I have beta that seems to be working with Java 7.
If you find a minute to try it and let me know if
there is any remaining problems I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance

Zipeg still has this problem with Mac. After installing Oracle Java in 10.8
(10.8.4) I get prompted that zipeg needs "A java 6 SE runtime". Java 6? Oracle
Java is 7... on apple it's troublesome to install "apple java" and oracle java
(No oracle java 6). Help???

after some research there is still a workaround for Mac:

This workaround for java is no good; Mavericks doesn't /have/ an 'apple' java,
you must install java from oracle. Java is currently 1.8.x on OSX 10.9.x.
Please, can this code be updated to actually use java made sometime after the
extinction of the dinosaurs?

"Please, can this code be updated to actually use java made sometime after the
extinction of the dinosaurs?"
made me laugh, although I should'nt because I'm wondering the same issue...
this is really annoying. Here I see that java 6 which zipeg is requesting for,
is more than two years old, for sakes.. the workaround suggested should work
though

For software, outdated for more than two years is a security and compatibility
issue.
Imagine if in another year and a half the workaround was to use windows xp?
From Oracle's site:
Where can I get the latest version of Java 6?
We highly recommend downloading and installing Java 7. The latest release for
Java contains many new features, performance enhancements, and bug fixes to
improve the running of Java applets or applications.
Java SE 6 End of Public Updates Notice
Oracle no longer posts updates of Java SE 6 to its public download sites. All
Java 6 releases up to and including 6u45 have been moved to the Java Archive on
the Oracle Technology Network, where they will remain available but not receive
further updates. Oracle recommends that users migrate to Java 7 in order to
continue receiving public updates and security enhancements.
In our environment, we're disallowed from running non-secure (re: anything but
the most recent release of) java, adobe, office, or other software. We'r
attracted to using a archive manager like zipeg, but of course this issue is
preventing that from being a possibility.
Mavericks and Yosemite don't have java 6 capability (if you do a clean install
instead of an upgrade), so there's no 'workaround' that works around for them.
