Status of Calcite Maps? #229

Open acrateau opened 4 years ago

acrateau commented 4 years ago

Hello Allan,

Are there any plans to update Calcite Maps? Or maybe plans for a similar UI theme/framework on the horizon?

MichalisM commented 4 years ago

Good question! It's a nice project to just leave it stale.

Any updates? Will the project be maintained? Will new features be added? Any integration with the arcgis cli ;-) ?

Thanks!

gisfinder commented 3 years ago

Calcite maps is cool. It seems esri has not strong desire to update it.

pmacMaps commented 3 years ago

It looks like Esri has several repos related to Bootstrap. Most haven't had any changes in a while.

andygup commented 3 years ago

Hi All, this repo is deprecated and is no longer being maintained, a notice has also been placed in the README. We know it has been really popular and thanks to all for using it. There will be an announcement soon on our updated plans for Calcite.

southernsun commented 3 years ago

@andygup can you elaborate? Is there already more information on what will be the replacement?

pmacMaps commented 3 years ago

For what it's worth, I've created a web map app that is inspired by Calcite Maps, but uses Bootstrap 4.x. Feel free to visit the repo for ideas/inspiration/criticism.

Related to #229 and #226.

andygup commented 3 years ago

@southernsun @pmacMaps I'll see if I can get the latest story on Calcite. I know there was work on an announcement/plan last year, but that's all I know right now.

dcoley commented 3 years ago

I can tell you that the primary reason I had to stop using it was because the 4.x version of Bootstrap seemed to have a licensing issue introduced by the 'Themes' component of that version. This was way back at JSAPI 4.7. I don't know if that's still the case, or if Calcite Maps would migrate to the new 5.x beta version and/or if there is a licensing constraint there. I could be wrong

i already moved forward on a different path. Although it would still be interesting to hear with what Esri will be replacing Calcite with. Thanks for the feedback!

andygup commented 3 years ago

This was way back at JSAPI 4.7. I don't know if that's still the case, or if Calcite Maps would migrate to the new 5.x beta version and/or if there is a licensing constraint there.

There won't be any updates to this repository.

It sounds like there will be an announcement coming soon on Calcite, tentatively in April. They are actively working on it. I don't know what info has already been announced, so I can't speculate at this time. Stay tuned!
