To the best of my knowledge and research, the symbol shown is current. I discussed this with a CW5 Geospatial Engineering Technician who works at TCM Geospatial. I will work the CP with him. After discussing this with him, the only field that could go away is the serial number field, as that was used in the days of map sheet boundaries and a separate bridge table for each map sheet (often printed on the back). Instead of serial number there will be something like Entity ID Reference Number (EIRN) in the metadata. Bypass conditions will most likely be a sector 1 modifier. Once this is complete we will then look at other route recon symbols, such as tunnel.
Assigned to me while @ottenw works up the CP.
@ottenw, I'll change the name to route reconnaissance symbols, how does that sound?
Updated doctrine publication is scheduled to be released in next 30-45 days - ATP 3-34.81, C1 Engineer Reconnaissance. Will evaluate that publication then start working on identifying new symbols for post MIL-STD-2525 Ch1
@ottenw, any update?
@joebayles I'll email you
Work in progress; compiling a list of symbols, what amplifiers are needed to support each and information format/structure required to populate each. Thinking of a new symbol set for Route Reconnaissance Symbology; the CP to add all this should also include proposed new pages / section to the implementation guidance document that is currently in draft form.
Presented by @ottenw at 17-3. Army will draft and present a Change Proposal.
NATO and US forces use standard symbols for reporting the results of route reconnaissance. I will look more into the standards, since the ones I know of are no longer active, but here's an example of a bridge reconnaissance. Anyone with input should feel free to comment below.
