Open igor-cali opened 4 years ago

igor-cali commented 4 years ago

Steps to reproduce:

  1. widget painted on screen;
  2. open Etar and add or delete an event
  3. check if widget is updated with the new event / without the deleted event

The widget is updated after phone reboot.

Device Information: Huawei Honor 8 (FRD-L09) Build: 8.0.0.521 (C432)

Etar Information: Version: 1.0.23 from F-Droid

I think your etar problems must have something to do with your phone. Huawei uses some strange energy saving modes that block many things in the background. What you describe here works on my phone without problems. Apparently the other users do as well, otherwise we would have a lot more bug reports by now. Maybe you can log what happens in the background when you create an appointment with Etar.

I can also confirm this bug. Widget does not update other than by destroying and re-creating the widget or by rebooting the phone.

@Gitsaibot I don't know much about Android app development, but I am tech savvy (I am programmer). Could you point me at some instructions on how to log what Etar and the widget do when I create an event?

Gitsaibot commented 3 years ago

If you use android Studio look here: https://developer.android.com/studio/debug/am-logcat

I didn't get a chance to debug, but I realised today that I don't reproduce anymore. The widget now updates within a few seconds after editing a calendar, I can even see it blink once when it updates. I am now on Etar 1.0.26 but I don't know if the problem stopped after upgrading to this version. I'm not sure but I think I also got an Android update after my initial report.

I had the issue now with version 1.0.41 on OnePlus 9 OxygenOS 13.1. I allowed etar to run in the background and it updated immediately. Before it usually updates when I scrolled down in the widget. This workaround stopped working a few weeks ago. No problems with etar allowed to run in the background now.
