We are happy to announce that we met each of our midterm goals!
Our goals were as follows:
Complete XML mark-up of entire chosen corpus
Finish Schema and apply to all individual XML documents successfully
Get Project Site up and running with individual pages all with preliminary styling with XHTML and CSS documents
We completed this and then some. Matt has begun the process of using XSLT do transform our XML documents in a way that visualizes our mark-up as a helpful research tool. Our CSS, while still very basic, is up an running on each different page. There are some inconsistencies here that Ethan has to address concerning the layout of the menu bar on each page and we are possibly reconsidering the choice of background as some of the textual input for the site remains hard to read, though there are several ways to get around this. XML mark-up is completely finished apart from a single outlier we noticed late in the game. Poe's poem "Al Aaraaf" follows a different formatting structure than the rest of the poems insofar as it contains parts with numeric headings instead of only containing stanzas. It is also extensively longer than any of the other poems. For these reasons this particular poem will require its own individual schema apart from the rest of the corpus, of which it is our goal to have completed by this Friday.
Moving forward we want to continue with our XSLT transformation as well as cleaning up the site presentation through different CSS tools and working on analyzing our finalized research of our corpus in the coming weeks.
hey, this isn't a huge setback, but within some of the XML files you have the schema associations wrong. Easy fixes, but make sure you're double-checking for these kinds of things!
