3 years ago I can second this, I was bothered by the same thing. My most common usage is between 3 currencies and I have memorized the location, but the symbols being kept while the rate updates would be a great usability enhancement.
Current behavior: While the currencies are updating the currency name is replaced with a text saying updating. This makes the buttons hard to use until the update is completed.
Requested change: Keep the button text somehow visible while updating so they are useful even if they could not update or if the update is slow. The update indication is a nice feedback to the user that the currency has not been updated, but it could be shown while also showing the text, for example with a small icon in the corner or a small text or a color like blue or red until it is updated.
Background: I travel extensively and this application has been my daily go-to for conversion needs, I often use it several times a day but in many places internet connection is spotty, slow or completely unavailable. This leads to the application sometimes being stuck on updating the currencies and the labels are not shown. The buttons still works with the old currency values but their positions has to be memorized. Note it normally not a problem to use the old values since currencies does not tend to change that often.
