Hi y0urh34d, thanks for your feedback.
I have checked PS1 and PS2 backups discs in my PS3 and it shows like original discs, I'm using my CFW 4.88.2 with Cobra 8.3. If you want, I can send you the BETA to see if it works fine, I can't create a full CFW 4.84.2 REBUG right now with all the recently changes in Cobra 8.3, it needs a lot of testing before
Just so you know mate, I don't have a hardware flasher and I have 0 soldering skills, I'll still be happy to test out your beta cfw if it installs and doesn't brick the CECHA model ps3s.
If you are still happy to allow me test your beta 4.88.2 cfw, I'll test the 2 scenarios.
4.88.2 BETA is working fine, it has been testing for several weeks. Tell me a social network to send it privately, twitter, facebook, etc...
I just sent a message on psx-place
Alright so far here are my results using a psx cd-r and a ps2 cd-r and a dvd-r backups.
After swapping the internal hdd with a ssd (870 evo 500gb), none of my psx/ps2 backup discs are getting recognized, they're data discs, original psx/ps2 discs do get recognized properly. The moment it's swapped back with a normal hdd, psx/ps2 backup discs gets recognized properly again as psx/ps2 format discs.
With a normal internal hdd, I'm still trying to get the issue to pop up somehow when it randomly refuses to work, of course it doesn't want to randomly break when I'm trying to recreate the issue with messing with some stuff on dev flash like the mods with ultimate toolbox or using files like pre 3.0 fw ps3 gameboot, random plugins etc.
On a side note (with a normal internal hdd), sometimes when the ps3 is started up with a psx/ps2 backup disc already inserted, it sometimes is detected as a data disc but just ejecting and reinserting the disc resolves it, sometimes it's detected as both a data disc and a psx/ps2 format disc but it does start normally if it does that.
I know this issue has nothing to do with anything you've done as it has been an issue for a while, but I know as more people are able to affordably upgrade their internal hdds with ssds or hybrid sshds, it will be an issue that'll affect more people as time passes.
Ok for some reason after installing ultimate toolbox and using a few mods included in it and having webman mod 1.47.36 and psnpatch plugin, sometimes when it boots up and no matter what backup disc you use, it'll show up as a data disc and that includes ejecting and then re inserting the disc a few times. Other times I turn it on and insert either the psx/ps2 backup disc, it works perfectly. To make a guess to the working to not working ratio, It'll work around 75 to 80% of the time just fine, when it isn't working, it's around 20 to 25% of the time, the only thing I could get the issue to far more likely pop up is to do a soft reboot, hard reboot is far less likely to get the data disc issue to occur. It honestly doesn't make any sense to me and I'm sorry this doesn't really help you out to pin point the direct cause as it can pop up just from turning on the ps3 without any reboots.
On an unrelated topic, when I have ultimate toolbox installed, the cfw tools sub menu doesn't show any icons and a few text lines are missing, uninstalling ultimate toolbox or reinstalling the cfw fixes the issue.
Hello Evilnat, I know this has been an issue for a while on and off for any cobra enabled custom firmware but would you be able to possibly fix this intermittent data disc issue properly.
My ps3 is a CECHA01 model on 4.84.2 Rebug in CEX mode with cobra 8.2 (I also have a CECHA00 model as a spare) which both are the full hardware ps2 backwards compatible models now this issue relates to using ps1 or ps2 backup discs. Every now and then when I insert a ps1 or ps2 backup disc, the disc is detected as a data disc and not as a PlayStation or PlayStation 2 format disc. Now for actual ps1 or ps2 game discs, there is no such issue whatsoever, the issue only occurs when a backup disc is used and it can either work properly or just not work period. I know for a fact that my discs I use are good which is either sony or verbatim dvd-r/cd-r which are burnt at the slowest speeds my pc disc drives supports and the backups run perfectly on the ps2s I have. I know my ps3 disc drive laser is also good as it has no hiccups with any games or movies i have and it detects any disc in around 7 to 8 seconds. The annoying thing is sometimes when I reinstall the cfw, the backup discs are getting detected properly again as ps1/ps2 format discs as they should be. I know it's not just a rebug cfw issue as I know it can happen with any other cobra cfw.
Also from what I found years ago, when the backup discs are being detected reliably as ps1/ps2 format discs, if I swap the internal hdd out and use a sshd or a ssd, even though its a freshly formatted sshd or ssd (and it won't have any data/plugins/programs on it as it's a NAND model ps3), ps1 or ps2 backup discs are again detected as data discs and that issue can be gauranteed to be proven again and again using either a Seagate firecuda sshd or a Samsung 870 evo ssd from what I have yet any normal hdd won't have the issue of permanently not being able to use ps1/ps2 backup discs.
I understand that this is a mess of info here but I really hope that you can possibly fix this rather strange and temperamental issue. Even if it can't be fixed, even just a workaround to forcibly detect a backup ps1/ps2 disc as a ps1/ps2 format cd/dvd would also be good when it's having the data disc issue.
