Mass EP Award causes extreme slowdown #739

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start a recurring Mass EP Award for a 25-man raid.
2. Start a boss fight.
3. At the worst possible moment, the EP award will trigger causing your
computer to completely freeze for five solid seconds.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
When a mass EP award happens, it should not be so CPU intensive as to cause
such a FPS loss. Currently it brings my frames per second down to zero for five
solid seconds.

What version of the product are you using? What locale is your client (en,
ru, kr, ch, es, tw)? What other addons do you have installed and what
versions? How many members do you have in your guild? (/guildinfo).

I'm using only the default English versions and I'm using EPGP 5.9.20 as well
as EPGPLootmaster 0.6.36. I always update to the latest version within 24 hours
and this behavior has occurred in all versions I have used since I started
using EPGP & EPGPLootmaster a month ago. I use several other addons including
the latest versions of Skada, DBM, Clique, Auctioneer (not during boss fights),
and Bartender. My guild has 926 players in it.

I am the master looter for a 25-man guild with usually 5 to 10 people on the
waiting/standby list. I'm guessing that updating all these people's EP during a
boss fight causes a large CPU load until it finishes. I'm wondering if I will
be able to continue to use this addon if it causes me to die in heroic fights.

My suggestion is to look into how the Auctioneer addon handles CPU usage. There
is a setting within that addon allowing you to set the minimum acceptable FPS
during processing. The Auctioneer addon scans and processes *all* items
currently on the auction house and is able to do so without causing a
significant drop in FPS. On a high population server, this can result in ten
minutes of processing but it is not a problem because it throttles its own CPU
usage.

Also, just to clarify, my comment about the Auctioneer addon was just to
indicate an example of a separate addon that handles CPU usage well. It was not
to indicate that somehow Auctioneer was causing the problem in this ticket. I
have Auctioneer completely disabled when this problem occurs.

My raid has this issue, too. If EP awards could be delayed until combat ended
that would probably be fine.

We don't see particularly high cpu use when our awards go out in combat, but it
can be costly depending on your connection and system specs. Will look into
doing something to improve this.
