I would like to see Exiv2 support the C2PA standard. This standard allows for images to store metadata that shows the provenance of the image. It is good for detecting deepfakes and also for showing when an image is actually from a moment in history that is important to document. Adobe is working to support this standard. I'm hopeful that funding or a grant can be obtained from some organization to support developers who would add this integration to Gimp. Please see the video on their website for a great explanation of the utility of this standard. Twitter has already signed up to offer this functionality.

I first asked for this support in GIMP, and was told that in order for GIMP to support this initiative, it would be best if Exiv2 supported it, and then it could be more easily be integrated into GIMP.
