Audio peaks and sound card failure #568

Good evening. I'm Maurizio IZ1HDR, I use EESDR3 1.0.3 beta build n 10022023 and sunsdr2dx SN EED06521900165 with firmware 86.8 on a macbook pro 14" M1 and 16 GB ram MAC OS Ventura 13.2.1. I noticed that there are signal peaks in reception that make the radio unusable. The signal peaks disappear if the audio is deactivated via the EESDR3 software with the appropriate volume menu or with the mute key. These peaks do not have a regular frequency. I also noticed that although the headphones with microphone I use work with other programs, with EESDR3 they do not. despite being inserted in the special jack, the program does not recognize them (the computer instead detects them) and although they are inserted, if you search the EESDR3 menu below for the one to select the soundcard options, the program only detects the speakers of the macbook. I hope this observation of mine is useful for any further study, as I have not found any further reports on the forum but comparing myself with other radio amateurs, I have found that I have the same problem. I use another computer with windows and everything works perfectly on this platform. Thank you for your attention and for what you do. 73' Maury IZ1HDR

This is what happens to me even though the headphones are plugged in and I have inserted the string as specified, on the terminal, for using the microphone.

Thanks to the comments on the forum, thanks to the suggestion of VK6NX Pavel, who suggested that I deactivate the wifi and connect sunsdr directly via a lan cable, the reception problem has disappeared. It remains that EESDR3 does not recognize my headset.

Thank you for the link, I solved the problem with the headphones, but the problem I have left is the one shown in the video above, on reception, which I believe is due to the characteristics of the wifi network, even if I tried with all users switched off and only active the sunsdr, but nothing has changed. I gave up using it via wifi, even if it would be really important for me to do it.

Some home WiFi manufacturers have issues with UDP traffic priority in their AP devices.

For example Ubiquity (even in expensive AccessPoints) - there is a long living bug with UDP priority, which causes issues with ESDR3 trafic over those devices.

Hi, I had considered changing the modem router that I supplied from TIM model TIM HUB+. Do you have any device, based on your experience, to recommend to try if I can make the sunsdr work in wifi with a macbook? I state that EESDR3 with windows in wifi works very well and under the same network. on the basis of this last verification, I can also think that it is a problem between eesdr3 and apple, but other radio amateurs, with the same configuration as me, manage to work without having this defect. I really don't know what to think, by now I've given up on using it exclusively via a LAN connection.

It is very hard to recommend, specifically WiFi for our setup.

I had Ubi NanoHD AP, cost twice the TIM mlodel you've mention - and it does not work. Very old Cisco WAP371 AP works fine. My friend was testing with Aruba APs - work in 50-50%.

It is more matter of guess and luck, I would say, specifically if you are looking into SoHo AP segment. Low range AP never being designed for traffic priority in standalone mode. In corp networks protocols proirity configured via Controllers.
