S-Meter that can display RMS or PEP values #135

Displayed S-meter value in ESDR3:

In LSB/USB mode (as in ESDR2), the S-meter shows the RMS value of the SSB signal that passes through the reception filter. There is basically nothing wrong with that, because this measured value represents the effective power of the received signal and is therefore also the most meaningful.

But: More than 90% of the Ham's work with transceivers from other manufacturers, which almost all display a more or less accurate peak value. In SSB, the peak value is 5...10 dB higher than the RMS value, depending on the individual modulation. This is often disruptive, since the reception report from a Sun station is always unrealistically lower than the report from the other station.

  1. The reception reports between a Sun transceiver and a non-Sun transceiver are therefore not directly comparable.
  2. Due to lack of expertise by many ham's, this is often misinterpreted and leads to the mistaken belief that Sun receivers are less sensitive.
  3. From a marketing point of view, this probably does not have a positive effect.

I therefore propose that the displayed S-meter value in ESDR3 be made switchable, so that the user can choose whether the S-meter shows RMS or PEP values.

Очень правильно замечание! Хотелось что бы производитель добавил функцию Very correct remark! I would like the manufacturer to add a function
