Cool so I get to make extra blocks and schematics? Exited
If you want to, yes. All I ask is discuss ideas before making them. This way we make sure what you do will fit in with what I can use.
Ideas: Tapestries, Windows looking out into other rooms, (Via node_boxes but just drops your normal brick as to remove excess blocks) Furnace room. (Containing large fire and pot above the fire) Ash (preferably near/in furnace room) Fish Farm?
Furnaces would fit with the workshop idea.
So I think workshop and temple are two we should probably keep at least.
Workshop:
Temple:
Windows is something I will need to think about, but the temple can get stained glass windows if I can pull it off.
Big furnace concept build With furnace tapestry
The problem is this would be really difficult to place well. We need mostly single node furniture items to place.
OK I'll work on single node decor I made more tapestries
To avoid texture repetition
What do you think?
I'm not sure about the colours. But going to do some proper testing this weekend now (sorry I didn't last weekend, but was too ill).
Something for the temple.
It looks a bit weird in the picture. I can edit the texture of you want
I did say ideas first. I'd rather decide content before we work on it.
OK
So do you like the statue idea? Maybe make it stone instead
And we could make it booby trapped... Blows up after breaking it Kinda Indiana Jonesy
I'm really not sure about statues for the moment. Will think some more.
Maybe a chandelier... All my good ideas are running out.
You have any ideas?
@Ezhh?
I am hugely busy with work and study deadlines, so please accept my apologies if I'm not as fast as you are.
A chandelier could be nice, but what is it part of? We need sets of matching items, not just one-off things, which is why I hoped we could plan first. For example:
General environment:
Environment 2:
Environment 3: ...
And so on.
Each unique area within the dungeon needs a group of matching items that look good together.
OK how about a dungeon/execution room? Which contains:
@Extex101
Some more stuff, for ideas -
Temple
Collapsed/broken pillars, probably of a randomly picked height, 1, - 4 nodes high, and made of varying materials, gold, silver, regular stone, marble, etc Pillar crumbles/debris Statue/idols of varying height/shape/design Some other sort of religious symbol - Cross, Hammer, Star, etc. (Preferably made-up) Pews? Some sort of place to rest Something involving water - Fountain(s), Baptismal tubs (Probably not a good idea), Scripture books (They could have a matching symbol, depending on the temple in question) Rectory, maybe? Not sure how that'd be implemented, though...
Prison Skeletons! Ball and chain Various torture devices (Stretcher, waterboarder, etc) including hand tools (Knives, bamboo seeds (If in a jungle biome), stones) non-default iron bars (They're so ugly :P) Spiders and their webs Rotted sleeping mats/beds
I'm sure @Ezhh will want to chip in, before you make anything, though. These are just to get the ball rolling a bit further.
Extex, I'm not sure why you are downvoting, but @AnyZeeAreOkay is a friend who is helping with this and he's done the thing I have been asking for.
Building from the lists above, we can aim for:
Temple: Colours/theme: clean, spacious, mostly white with traces of gold
Prison: Colours/theme: unpleasant, dark, black and grey.
I'm not going to add keys or weapons to the prison for now because it feels like giving things to prisoners that you would not want them to have. I also feel torture devices might be going too far, or too difficult to make properly.
K I just thought he was some random who decided they wanted to help Plus I didn't like some of the ideas (None of the ones I didn't like are in your list)
Tiled floor
Do you already have some carpet system?
What do you mean by normal pillar node?
OK do you want the texture smaller too? (Like not the regular player texture size? )
Do we really need to? Couldn't we just reuse your chairs?
K..
OK
Oh cool I already made some. (I didn't think you'd want them so I didn't show you them)
K, on it
K so an xpane?
Cool I'll go mane the texture
So like little bone piles?
K
Hmm... that floor might be too much gold. It looks busy instead of clean and holy, if that makes sense. Could we have a second version to go with it? Something more white? It's possible both could be used.
I really like the candle stick, but could the candlestick holder itself be more gold, so there is more contract between the holder and the candles themselves? Also, is it animated? For example, this is the existing candle: The candle colours should match if possible as well.
Do you already have some carpet system?
No. I'm not sure if they should be full nodes for dungeons, so that other items can be placed on top of them. What do you think?
What do you mean by normal pillar node?
Unbroken/undamaged and that can connect well to others. We'd then want a node the looks the same, but is broken at the top. This is because dungeons don't have predictable heights, so when the dungeon is too tall we can just have a pillar that has broken instead of one that reaches the ceiling. I think maybe instead of full nodes they would be slightly narrower.
OK do you want the texture smaller too? (Like not the regular player texture size? )
Let's see what you come up with. No need to stick with humanoid statues either if you think of something else.
Do we really need to? Couldn't we just reuse your chairs?
More variation would be nice. The problem with chairs is rotation... so right now they are a schematic placed with the tables. Here I'd like a schematic that is rows, and that could look better with benches. There are a couple of mods that have these already - they should be simple, backless benches (check on RC for the general idea).
K so an xpane?
I'd rather not add a dependency on such a glitchy mod. Better to use connected nodeboxes if we can.
So like little bone piles?
Yes!
Also a thought: what to stand the candlesticks on?
Could we have a second version to go with it? Something more white? It's possible both could be used.
Yeah OK I'll have a try
but could the candlestick holder itself be more gold
How's this?
Also, is it animated?
Yeah it's animated
No. I'm not sure if they should be full nodes
Ok.

OK I can't make any node-boxes because I have no experience with them.. I just use the node-box editor on my computer but I won't be able to use the computer for a month
Same for the statues I can't get to blender
Better to use connected nodeboxes if we can
Yeah.... (see previous answer)
Yes!
So how would these be done? Like flat like seeds with a bony pile texture? Or what?
Candlestick colour is much better thanks, but we might need to have more than three frames for animation. That can be adjusted later, so no hurry.
For nodeboxes - I do mine directly without using nodebox editor. I can try and make ones for the benches at some point.
For the bones... Let's try flat to begin.
K how's this?
Xpanes for presentation of texture
Put together
What do you think?
New temple tile blocks NOTE: There are two
Ooh those are purddyy.
Candlestick - yes.
Chain - yes.
Prison bars - the switch between two pixel and 3 pixel wide bars looks really weird to me, and I am fairly sure I said somewhere else that we're not using xpanes.
Gravely dungeon floor - yes.
New temple tiles - yes yes yes yes yes yes yes. (Still not what I asked for, but love that texture. I might make a white texture myself).
I said I was just using xpanes for preview purposes OK
Okay - I can do connected nodeboxes for them if needed, but I think we need a consistent texture with bars all the same width. The actual style is nice, so that would be the only change. Darkage iron_bars might be worth looking at for spacing guidance.
Yeah, OK, I'll try it
And for the fire pit I'm gonna need your fire texture This is what I've got but i'll have to adjust it to your fire (if you have your own texture that is)
Didn't make a fire texture yet, so would be happy for you to make one.
Another one to think about at the same time might be the torch texture. We're currently using the MTG one so I'd like to replace it.
Sorry no luck on the fire And sorry for my inactivity Which iron bars do you like better? Darkage bar size and distance (3 pix) but connected side to side there is a 4 pixel gap
Consistent bar size and equal distance
No problem. I have a huge amount going on so I probably won't be very active until after my exams (in June).
For the bars - Those three pixel ones are really nicely shaded. I'm really impressed with those. Could we keep both for now?
Uploaded bars3x and bars4x
Also where do you keep your code for your subgame? I might be able to do more besides textures Or at least just see how it looks (If it has anything to do with discord then nvm)
There is a private github repo for this. I will send you an invite so you can join it.
One important rule: please don't commit anything directly. If you want to add something, you can make an issue to discuss first, then a PR and it will be reviewed.
There is also an IRC channel, so if you use IRC let me know, and I will send you the info. (No discord. I don't like it either.)
No worries I won't push
One of the things I really want is content inside dungeons. I can place dungeon furniture, but we need more things to actually place.
So far we have tables, chairs, crates, candles, torches and (pending engine changes) shelves. We can get dungeons that look something like this:
The next stage is to divide dungeons into specific areas, and have different decorations for each. I already have the code needed for this, but I don't have the items to place.
Possible areas:
(These are just examples and might not be the final areas we choose.)
So first - I'd love if you have ideas or suggestions for what to include, and then we can decide what items we need for those areas. I'd like somewhere between 4 to 5 different themed areas that can occur in dungeons when we're done.
