Can we get this in a non-Rar/Cassette Format? #197

Ancient media is fun! It seems like you're using winrar files as your release base. This technology was designed around the same time as audio cassettes, and I'd feel much more comfortable running the latter on my computer. Can you use a modern, free, open-source, non-licensed or regularly available release program? Like 7zip?

ghost commented 3 years ago

Hello, yes ancient media is fun, like the zip format that came out 31 years ago! Or the rar format that's only 27 years old! And guess what: the 7z format is only 21 years old! Wow! It probably makes such a difference... Seriously dude, this hasn't gotten a single update since 2018 and you're complaining about the file type not being one you prefer? And how is running a file format that's a bit older than another one so much worse? It's not like a file format automatically contains viruses the older it gets...

Also, 7zip is only a program to make and open archives, and guess what: 7ZIP SUPPORTS .RAR! You can MAKE and OPEN .RAR in 7zip! He probably even used 7zip to make the rar

Cool story, bro.

Yeah, RAR is not supported by 7zip. Why do you think I would mention that if I hadn't tried it?

Why can't 7-Zip open some RAR archives? 7-Zip 9.20 supports RAR 2/3/4 formats only and doesn't support RAR5 archives. But latest versions of 7-Zip supports RAR5 archives.

https://www.7-zip.org/faq.html

The more you know!

ghost commented 3 years ago

If you read it, then you can see that only 9.20 can't open RAR5

7-Zip 9.20 supports RAR 2/3/4 formats only and doesn't support RAR5 archives.

The latest version of 7zip can open RAR5:

But latest versions of 7-Zip supports RAR5

And I literally did open it with 7zip about 30 minutes ago, maybe try updating your version of 7zip? Complain about "ancient" media but don't have the latest version of 7zip?

What exactly is the problem? If something is broken, don't you submit a ticket to fix it? Isn't that how this whole thing is supposed to work?

Yeah, I'm sure I'll take a look at it again soon. I put in the ticket six months ago, probably should be able to retest again in six months.

And what is broken with HourBoostr? Then you should submit a ticket for 7zip if 7zip isn't working as it should for you... Nothing is broken with HourBoostr, so this is not the right place to make a ticket...

Says the guy complaining that a software that hasn't been updated in 2 years is not in his desired format?

Let's be clear. RAR is a proprietary format. I cannot open it in any open source software, at all, 7zip or otherwise. It says right on the 7zip site, "...there is unRAR license restriction for some parts of the code. " Or, hey, welcome to Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAR_(file_format)

RAR is a proprietary[3] archive file format that supports...

I know it's really difficult for you to understand, but this is what I need to be able to do to make this project's source code work:

I can't do that right now.

Says the guy complaining that a software that hasn't been updated in 2 years is not in his desired format?

Who are you? I just looked at your profile and you have zero contributions to any project, and you certainly don't speak for the Ezzpify project. Right now, I think you're embarrassing them. =\

ghost commented 3 years ago

Dude, I know that you are trying to open the file and it is not working for you... But it literally is supported by 7zip, or are you going to tell me that my version of 7zip was made by a witch and thus can open RAR files? If you want I can repack it into a 7z, oh no wait I CANT UPLOAD 7Z TO GITHUB???? Almost like it's an unsupported filetype on GitHub!

this is what I need to be able to do to make this project's source code work: Open the file.

No, you can actually download the source code as ZIP directly by pressing "Code" and then "Download ZIP" in the top right corner of the file system. The release is a RAR, yes...

BTW: I'm using 7zip 19.0 (build 2019-02-21) and it works completely fine! (Latest stable release for 7zip) Check what version you are using...
