Related to errors found by @pdp2shirts

The patch image tool needs to be more robust.

Better output when bad inputs are given
Better usage on what is minimally required to patch an image
Better cleanup when something goes wrong

Better cleanup could come in the following form:

1) Functionally combining the volume group managment. 2) Creating a main function (nice but not necessary), this could have a clear functional flow of what is going on. 3) Move all functions to the top of the file. There is one function def that seems to be defined in the middle of the file.
