since https://docs.openstack.org/releasenotes/octavia/rocky.html#b2 octavia supports provider/third party drivers. Are there any plans to implement a f5 ltm driver?

I have same question, i have bunch of F5 and thinking if octavia support then i can add them in openstack

+1 We need to replace neutron lbaas v2 to octavia because neutron-lbaas v2 will be deprecated. But, we are not sure whether F5 driver can be implemented with octavia or not.

I'm disappointed that F5 does not react to this functionality at all. From Train release, neutron-lbass is going to be gone entirely, so there is no choice to use this commercial product. I think there will be secret channel to provide this or not (We, of course, buy the product too), if the vendor want to be called them open sourced, they should have any minimal reaction for the users.

I hope F5 say anything about that even like "Go to kubernetes, we don't care about openstack at all anymore"

We've been moving away from F5. We do k8s on openstack and use octavia backed with haproxy. We poc'd k8's on bare metal, but were not pleased with the bare metal load balancer options.
