nozzle offset for laser head #143

Your instructions on this page : http://www.fabtotum.com/calibrating-laser-head-focus-distance/ suggests to me that for the laser head a similar process should take place as with the printing heads for height calibration. To my surprise, after setting a X/Y starting point no z-height is checked with a probe. Not after using the nozzle calibration as well.

To store Z height during laser or milling operations you must first home the Z axis. As both tasks can be used with different type of materials that might even be soft Z homing is done with the Z-max endstop (bed goes all the way down).

If you want to store XYZ position, do a XYZ homing and then move the head to the desired position.

Next time you do a laser task do XYZ homing and then you can restore XY and Z. Best to home XY first and then Z as this is the safest way to avoid the head hitting anything.
