7 years ago Hello Bernard, hope I can help. First off, we've been releasing newer versions but haven't updated the demo install page - my bad! I'll start by pointing you to a newer version:

Download the cloudformation script jar from latest Herd release release:
- Extract the jar and find the herd.localdb.template file
- Then proceed with the remainder of the instructions starting on Step 4 of the Demo Install Page (Note - I've updated the page to reflect how to always grab the latest version)
This should work fine and you'll be able to continue on to the 'Quick Start to Registering Data' tutorial linked from the demo.
Let me know how it goes - and I am always interested in how people hear about Herd and the use cases you're considering. I am happy to set up a time to talk.

PS - In the unlikely event you have any problems with the latest template, here are some advanced instructions that will allow you to collect more information:
- Perform the steps on the Demo Install Page until step 7 - stop on the Options page
- Expand the 'Advanced' section and set the 'Rollback on failure' option to 'No'
- Continue with the install. Upon failure, navigate to the 'Resources' tab and click on the EC2 instance.
- Connect to that EC2 instance
- Obtain the following files or the contents of these files and send
them to me
- /var/logs/messages
- /var/logs/user-data.log
