I have a question, its ok can I use the External DVD drive to read GC backup disc instead of read GC backup disc on Wii or Wii U (Wii Mode) internal drive?

FIX94 commented 9 years ago

I dont own a external dvd drive so I have no clue how to add any support for it.

Ohhh, I'm sorry, my bad. It just I'm a bit new on this, but thank you.

Ohhh I almost forgot tell you, but its sound weird, I got WiiMC (which is a dol file) at home and I use external DVD to run DVD movies on Wii instead of using Wii internal drive. I also went to WiiMC to read source codes in this website, and the WiiMC forum's website (https://github.com/Homebrews/WiiMC/commit/260e598a4a55132f96d3754cb071cce01f668070, https://github.com/Homebrews/WiiMC/commit/ea479bad805b4d9c6537281b51bd381733415039, https://github.com/Homebrews/WiiMC/commit/7a9430fd87d05d7ff3bb0eed17a178c898e40055, and http://www.wiimc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1105). I was thinking, would it be a good idea to use the external DVD codes from WiiMC and added onto any loaders like Nintendont and/or any USB loader devices that run backup discs? But I'm not sure its gonna work or not, its just I was thinking and I'm just trying to help.

the code doesnt really look too special as if the usb code already can read from it. maybe we can look at it if I get some time again.

Uhhh, I forgot to tell you, I not really good on coding, like understand and compiled source code, but just a little bit I know, sorry about that. I found some code by searching them, but it might help you, not sure its gonna work:

1 -usbdvd_test.7z from different WiiMC forum (http://www.wiimc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1033&start=140 or http://www.wiimc.org/forum/download/file.php?id=376&sid=279c1de34c0e6ae1d8ddc00d4c2fcb00) or usbdvd_test download on wiiflow page (https://storage.googleapis.com/google-code-attachments/open-wiiflow-mod/issue-217/comment-4/usbdvd_test.c). The code from WiiMC forum, I didn't made the code, some people from WiiMC made it.

2 -libogc iso9960 and usbstorage (https://github.com/devkitPro/libogc/commit/057c936d6ce87806ef73a498127cc704e62c1f5a) on libogc (https://github.com/devkitPro/libogc)

3 -uloader (https://github.com/spacemanspiff/uLoader/commit/deee059891158b2ba81804695db5d10e9494a250) and/or odip-plugin (https://github.com/spacemanspiff/odip-plugin) where source code on module.c/h and wbfs.c/h.

That's all the code I search so far. By the way, I got external DVD at home so you don't have to worry about buy a external DVD from any stores. I can test it if you don't have external DVD.

If you need a secondary tester for original wii - I have an external LG DVD drive and a SAMSUNG BD.

tikman commented 9 years ago

They also got External USB DVD LG with appropriate code like GDR-8082N that read original/retail GameCube games too instead of read on the new drive and Wii U which the new drive is not compatible. But if you use the any External DVD and Samsung BD with non-appropriate code on it, it won't read original/retail GameCube games, but it will read GameCube backups as well.

I was thinking, but I shouldn't post this on this issues, if you have Wii U vWii with Trinux or Wii with Whiite Linux (which the code has to be modified), It can read and backup original games like GameCube and Wii disc on Wii U vWii or Original Wii by using External DVD and directly to SD card front (Wii and Wii U vWii Only) and USB device (SD card reader, HDD, Flash drive) instead of using the computer and/or laptop as well. If you using Wii U vWii and Trinux, it will be easy, because you don't have to modified, it do same thing as PC and/or Laptop do, but I'm sure its gonna work or not, but you can try it. I added list on the bottom the page so it might help you:

Wii Whiite Linux (It has to be modified) -http://forum.wiibrew.org/read.php?29,61010,61315#msg-61315 -http://sourceforge.net/p/gc-linux/mailman/message/26475993/
