Request to have a display label for department name, in order to show this-department-in-that-college and that kind of thing:
First step is to look at the MADS schema and see how this could be done in MADS.
Then ask Gail Lewis what coding effort would be.
Three ways to do this:
Option 1: MADS on the Person Entity: Link the Person Entity to the Organization Entity on the Person Entity's (with no authority attribute). Then for a Person Entity which has an , show the . For an which doesn't have this authority, instead show the . Putting the organization display on the Person Entity's MADS might be preferable, because it's a more fine grained control which would only affect how faculty profiles look one faculty member at a time.
Option 2: MADS on the Organization Entity: Keep the name for linking in . Then also have a display name in . On the display of the profile for both the Person Entity and the Organization Entity,
show the value if one exists, and show the
value if one does not exist. (Probably a good option, because then any library that wants to do this can choose to set it up. The danger is that a library might be using in a different way, but I think no libraries have come in with preexisting MADS records.)
Option 3: Follow up the chain and say something like Department of Adding in the College of Math, and terminate just before hitting the root organization. (Probably not a great option, because some libraries might like it while some might not.)

Subject: [ISLANDORA-FLIIRT] faculty with multiple organization affilations
Hello,
I have a concern when considering person entities that have more than one organization entity affiliation.
Case 1: Professor M of the Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Science also teaches for the Honors College. His faculty profile lists Department= Biological Sciences and if I add a second Dept. tab in the MADS it will reflect Department= Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College. To the User viewing the profile it looks as if the faculty is a member of ‘Department of Biological Sciences in the Honors College’ rather than his True Primary College which is the College of Science (only Colleges don’t show in the profile unless they are listed as the ‘department’)
I could edit and ADD College of Science after Department of Biological Sciences BUT since this is a Linking Field I would then have to ADD the College of Science in the IR TREE in order for the linking to work.
If there was a way that the MADs tab for Department could have a LINKED field: ‘Department of Biological Sciences’ with the Option for a Display Label: ‘Department of Biological Sciences, Charles E. Schmidt College of Science’ than the LINK could remain correct for the IR Hierarchical TREE View AND the Label in the Faculty Profile could be correct also.
