Is this currently worthy for this milestone? If it is as easy as specifying the plugin as a dependency and adding it to the default config then I'm all for it. Otherwise, the text store will do for now?

Yeah, it should be simple.

I've always hated the (perceived) storage inefficiency of the text store, so putting gitstore to use was a big motivation for starting BFW in the first place.

Of course this means BFW will require Git to be installed (since some gitstore operations were impossible with the pure-Python implementation), which I don't think is an onerous requirement though. If necessary, we can think about how to make it optional in a later version.

done with 5f37ccf1c1e2b1b04919d196320a8fbe01ae737d

it appears Dulwich is still under active development, so we should review gitstore to check whether calling out to Git is still necessary
