Gap analysis: evaluate chrisproject.org against Open Source Way 2.0 guidelines #50

The Open Source Way is a nice guidebook on how to run effective and collaborative open source communities. We would like to have the current https://chrisproject.org evaluated against The Open Source Way's guidelines (some of the guidelines in the book specific to project websites are in this section: https://www.theopensourceway.org/the_open_source_way-guidebook-2.0.html#_communication_norms_in_open_source_software_projects but there are many throughout the book that would be relevant for ChRIS.)

A successful outcome for this ticket would be a checklist list of actionable items where we could do better along the Open Source Way's guidelines with references to The Open Source Way passages for each. For example, The Open Source Way mentions social media as a good way to get the word out about a project community - ChRIS does not have a social media presence. So you might recommend we consider creating a social media presence on specific platforms.

@mairin how can I fix this issue ?

Seundede commented 2 years ago

The points below are some of the ways ChRIS can implement some of the guidelines provided in The Open Source Way:

  1. Create a social media presence on specific platforms to provide an avenue for upcoming advertising events, live streaming of content, marketing, and technical support.
  2. Add a frequently asked question (FAQ) section to ChRIS website.
  3. Have a project roadmap to document goals.
  4. Get more out of the issue tracker on GitHub by using issue templates to enable contributors to know the community convention for filing a helpful bug report.
  5. Create a glossary of commonly used terms for easier communication
  6. Translate the documentation to other languages to make the project more accessible.
  7. Create a code of conduct to document expectations around the civil discourse.
