Design: Smaller, 3D printable version

We'd like to make a smaller housing for the centrifuge that is designed to keep all the inner parts exactly in place in a minimal volume. The current version is build with both 3D printed parts and laser cut parts. For those who don't have a lasercutter at hand, a fully 3D printed design is a solution.

Design Principles

We are aiming for a mini centrifuge

Architecture design principles:

• Avoid having as much floating components as possible. Solution:

  • Mount as much components as possible in the PCB:
    • Microcontroller board, Power Sitch, Power connection, Screen and Digital encoder

• Make the architecture design and placement of the components manufacturing agonostic(as much as possible).

  • This means that people should be able to fabricate the casing with a 3D printer, laser cutter, vacuum forming etc.

Design requirements

• Add a mechanical switch for the led to ensure safety
• Part of the rotor should be visible (transparent).
• Use a teensy or similar solution that holds an SD card to store data about product usage, like cycles, etc.
• The PCB should be accessible via easy disassembly steps, ideally one step.
• Electronic connections should be robust and standard:
• PCB must facilitate ease of soldering.
• The electronics should be easily testable without having to assemble the whole product.
• Make the motor mount robust

Tasks and tests:

• Make a preliminary PCB CAD module focused on architecture and component placement.
  • Rationale: We want to print the PCB prototype, or laser cut it to se how it fits the requirements above.
• Make CAD design focused on fast printability.
  • Print it and test it with new PCB CAD prototype.
• Make ordering of parts, and gather all the materials for to make this build.
