We will take the whole next session (7 Jan 2021) to work on team projects. This means you can further discuss per Discord in your groups, ask instructors for feedback and finalize the abstract of your team project during the session from 4 - 6pm.
You will have to submit the abstract at the end of session 8 (7 Jan 2021, 6pm)
Abstracts can either be submitted as new Github issues (label: project) or as a PDF per e-mail to the instructors.
The abstracts will then be reviewed by your colleagues (assignment for session 9). We will give you more instructions about this process during session 8.
The format of the abstract is 750 words per team describing your research design, incl.
research questions
material and data
technology and methods
analytical approach
Since the question came up several times: under 'analytical approach,' we refer to the theoretical approaches that inform your way forward. We advise you to choose an approach that was / will be discussed in the seminar and can be backed by academic literature, e.g. mapping controversy (Marres and Moats 2015), discoursive practice theory (Pentzold and Menke 2020; Jones et al. 2015), Grounded Theory (Charmaz 2006) or the (online) civic cultures framework (Uldam and Askanius 2013).
Important
Don't see this abstract as a prescription you will later have to follow step-by-step. It is a first possibility to think your project through as a group and to share ideas with other seminar participants. Based on feedback from peers and the instructors, you will be able to make adjustments and discover new opportunities of your project.
Your peers will review your project ideas based on criteria such as: relevance to the seminar focus, analytical plausibility, feasibility (!!).
If you have questions that might also concern others, please ask directly as a reply to this issue.
