Low fps and graphical issue on OSX #133

Hi,

I'm using the last version of xash3d on OSX. I tried with the original client and server game libraries as well as the vgui-less ones.

With both i have extremly low fps, as well as graphical issues.

Please find, the log I had with -dev 5

Probably, it had to do with some opengl extensions failed to load, maybe you can confirm :p

Hello!

I tried to run Xash3D under OS X and I got same issue. I thought the problem is in "fallback" OpenGL driver, because I used VirtualBox to run OS X. I don't know why it's happening, but I see that on your machine, a valid driver is loaded.("Video: " string in log)

I have no problem with ioquake3 for example.

@sballu ioquake3 uses OpenGL2.x. This isn't the same as OpenGL1.x.

You can choose between the opengl 1 and the opengl 2 drivers, and the default one is the opengl1. But I will try another quake engine and see if I have the same problems.

Hi, Currently, I have no more graphical issues and low fps. I set the "gl_extensions" parameter to 0, and it works perfectly.

I don't know what I miss with this parameter set to 0, but at least it works !!!

Me again, I set "gl_extensions" back to "1" and checked every single extensions. If you set the parameter "gl_sgis_generate_mipmaps" to 0 you don't have any problem on OSX (10.6.8)

I think the problem is with : GL_ARB_texture_non_power_of_two

It seems OSX has bad support on this function, at least on old version.

I set back "gl_sgis_generate_mipmaps" to 1 and "gl_texture_npot" to 0 and no all is ok.

Xash3D have it's own software workaround for NPOT textures. (resampling)

So disabling it is harmless. At least, all Android devices uses software resampling instead of GL_OES_texture_npot. I can disable it by default for APPLE targets. Or just post a note at wiki or in README, of course.

Well the xash3d software way of doing is far more effective than the osx opengl driver one ;p
