Optimizing data annotations for pubications associated with the BigBrain data #3

The BigBrain dataset is unique. For this reason the data are often used by researchers for derived data publications. Such data publications should identify the used data in a standard fashion to better track provenance and best should be annotated in detail as well to be of use for the BigBrain community.

We could do a hands-on session with existing derived BigBrain data or data that are currently in progress and discuss and optimize their metadata annotations.

To clarify, when you mention data annotations, you mean adding annotations to the data themselves (e.g. derived data is extracted with so-and-so software, so-and-so version), but not spatial annotations, such as delineation created with softwares such as microdraw, online section tracer, atelier 3D, etc?

@xgui3783 good question. We could discuss both, because it will be usefull to harmonize / optimize annotations for both cases, but they are different use cases (with only a certain overlap).

EBRAINS/Siibra-Explorer Specific Comment: We should consider how we can standardize the representation and selectability of BigBrain annotations and maps. Given that the BigBrain annotations often exist in greater detail than in other reference spaces with lower resolution, the integration between BigBrain datasets and potentially corresponding annotations in other reference spaces is not yet optimal.

Check whether it's easy to adjust the existing anatomical designations of the JBA areas to match Terminologia Anatomica. This would simplify the future anchoring of additional annotations, for example from the McGill group.

Adaptations of OpenMinds metadata for JBA as a small example of how it works technically.
