small issues compiling under python2 #20

I had to make minor modifications to be able to compile with both python2 and 3. The diff is attatched to this message.

Hi,

I dropped Python 2 yesterday to fix python 3 issues (commit dccfe29 844e4a5). I am afraid there are other issues with Python 2 now. Could you confirm you can run fine?
