Garry's Mod instantly crashes on macOS #3578

Details

macOS version: 10.13.6
No other source engine games are installed
Garry's Mod fails to launch of the latest version of macOS after a fresh game install / new steam update

When opening hl2_osx directly it prints

Steps to reproduce

Delete Garry's Mod folder
Uninstall through steam and reinstall
Attempt to launch

you need to use the hl2.sh script

There is no such file even after validating.

Can you get the crash log? You can get it through the crash prompt that macOS should display.

After reinstalling once more it started to give this error.

After setting the OS display settings to default it launched fine. I then changed the games display settings to run window and changed my OS display settings back to what they were. It launches fine now.

It appears it's a source engine issue.

yeah I got that OpenGL error too but didn't have the chance to look at it. My OS display settings should be at the default.

CS:GO works fine for me. Not tried the older Source games yet.

Same issue on Mac OS X 10.7.5. I get the following errors:

Engine Error

Steam Error: No SteamUser.

Please make sure Steam is running and
it is NOT in compatibility/administrator mode!

If Steam Family View is enabled, in order to continue:
- Garry's Mod must be allowed to be played
- You should disable or exit Steam Family View

If that doesn't work, try the following:
- Make sure that Steam is up to date
- Try launching Garry's Mod from the Steam Client
- Try restarting your PC
- Try deleting ClientRegistry.blob & restarting Steam
- Try Garry's Mod -> Delete Local Content
