Files do not persist between play sessions on Geforce NOW #12716

Disclaimers

What happened?

When playing Barotrauma on Geforce Now, it doesn't save the following settings/files between sessions (non-exhaustive):

This essentially means that everything listed above is lost after every session on Geforce Now. Campaign save files and graphic settings are saved, though.

This is an issue how Geforce Now has configured Barotrauma on their service in regards which files to save persistently and which not. In order to save all those listed things above, Nvidia customer support said to contact the developer, so he could get in touch with Nvidia. This issue has persisted since Barotrauma was released on Geforce Now.

This is seriously limiting the game and a lot of people enjoy playing it over Geforce Now. Would be great if you contacted them to fix this issue.

Reproduction steps

  1. Start game on Geforce Now
  2. create submarines, make bans, add servers to favorites
  3. end game
  4. start game again;
  5. all listed things are gone.

Thank you for the report! We've gotten in touch with Geforce NOW to get this fixed.

This should now be fixed. Please let us know if you run into any issues still. Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience!

I have tested it and the issues still persists. I've tested servers in the US and EU regions to be sure, although their config should be the same across every server in all regions.

You can verify the issues by signing up for a free GFN account, which should allow you to run the game, once you've linked your Steam to it.

Thanks for follow-up Are you still experiencing the issue on all of the files mentioned? I think only some of those files were added to the cloud sync.

Submarines created in the editor, or any other local mods, are intentionally not synced because that would easily lead to your local changes getting accidentally lost. If you want to make the local mods persist, you should publish them in the Steam Workshop (if you don't want them to be publicly available, you can keep them unlisted).

But as far as I know, the rest of the files should be synced now.

I was not aware that not saving submarines is intentional. Thanks for the tip with the workshop.

As for the other settings saved in files (recent servers, favorite servers, ban list, hosting settings): they're still not getting saved across sessions. I tested it periodically over the last 8 hours using random servers.
