FPPD keeps crashing in 8.3 in my configuration #2046

NOTE: IF YOU DO NOT ATTACH YOUR LOG FILES, THEN THERE IS A HIGHER PROBABILITY THE ISSUE WON'T BE RESOLVED. (Steps at end)

Please answer the following:

FPP Version and Hardware: FPP 8.3 running on Pi 3 B V1.2

Describe the bug and Steps to reproduce: A clear and concise description of what the bug is and the steps to be taken to reproduce.

  1. Boot FPP.
  2. FPP produces a red banner saying "FPP Daemon is not running (Warning ID: 1)" and "There is 1 crash report available. The system is configured to automatically upload these to the FPP developers..."
  3. Attempts to restart FPPD manually are unsuccessful. This results in generating additional crash reports.

Expected behavior: FPPD is stable.

Additional context: This first occurred after completing the upgrade from 8.2. To rule out problems from baggage brought in from older versions, I decided to reimage from the 8.3 zip file using a spare Pi 3. I restored my configuration and FPPD seemed stable on this device. Note that it was not in my production system so it was not communicating with my controllers. I then replaced the SD in my production system with this reimaged card and the problem still occurred. 3. Select the "Logs" tab
  4. Click "zip" button.

A few questions:
When you re-imaged both Pi's did you user the same image? If so try redownloading the image. Did you boot up the pi and test it beofre restoring your backup?

The second time I reimaged the Pi I used a fresh image downloaded from GitHub. The extent of my testing was seeing that FPPD was running and didn't create a crash report. FPPD was also fine after I restored the backup on my spare Pi. It crashed after I moved the SD card from the spare Pi into my production Pi.

Hope this helps. I've gone back to 8.2 and it's running fine.

also FPPD crashing for me on pi4 after upgrading and working 8.2

Warning ID: 1 - FPPD Daemon is not running FPPD Not Running

The FPPD executable (the operational brain) is not currently running... this could be the result of several things...

Check if fppd file exist -- If not, may have been failed upgrade
Check fppd.log file. If quickly crashing after restart, try and flag error
Configuring xLights with the wrong type of controller, typically selecting an F instead of K series controller (or vice versa) or one of the other similar controllers. Fix-Configure xLights correctly and go to FPP Settings>System and reset Channels, re-upload from xLights
