Event type: child recognition #84

You can, in France, recognize a child as yours after its birth or a wedding, or at any moment, if you were not married at its birth. This event, "reconnaissance d'enfant", exists in registers. It is different from adopting a child, because usually the child is biologically yours, and you need not go to court. It might be a good thing to, at last, add this specific event as a standard one.

Good point. We have it in Germany, too. "Legitimation". Not only add a new EVENT, but a new NAME.TYPE for adoption and for legitimation. In both cases often the surname of the person is modified.

Questions:

  1. Is the following a good definition of what I believe in English is called the "legitimation of a child": "A legal action which grants parental rights to the biological father of a child some time after birth."
  2. Which one should the new Individual Event Structure have?
    1. a FAMC pointer (like ADOP) to the FAM record of the birth parents
    2. a FATH pointer to the father's INDI record
  3. For the new NAME.TYPE enumerated value, is the following a good definition? "Name given when relationship to biological father was legitimated."

  1. the action grants many rights to the child, too. My limited English does not allow me to write a better sentence. anybody else can do?
  2. I am not sure. the new tag is a new structure anyway. But: Why not use 2 ASSO with ASSO.TYPE LEGITIMATED FATHER. This woul avoid some implementation difficulties with FATH.
  3. ok
albertemmerich commented 2 years ago

correct ASSO.TYPE to ASSO.ROLE in 2.

In France you can “recognize a child” even if you are not the biological father/mother. DNA tests are not legal unless requested by a court.

Nevertheless, after recognizing a child, the man is the father, the woman is the mother, unless a court decides against it.

And the name of the child changes to that of the father.

I oppose the “biological” term; it should be “legal” instead.
