Add specific bonuses to each race #2

Open Fantu opened 10 years ago

Fantu commented 10 years ago

Currently breeds do not have practical differences for the 0.9 I would like to add specific bonuses for each race.

I thought at the time:

Humans:

Dwars:

Elfs:

Undeads:

Orcs:

Increase the initial characteristics, for now determined only by the classes (in doubt)

Humans:

Elfs:

Undeads:

Dwars:

Orcs:

Advices/opinions about races bonuses?

EDIT: last update on Mar 3, 2014

Humans - In most RPGs Humans are charismatic jack-of-all-trades but at the same time they don't master anything. They're also quick to adapt to unfavorable conditions and good at surviving and learning quickly. In light of this, some ideas:

Dwarves - Dwarves usually live really long in fantasy:

Elves - Sounds good, what about:

Undeads - This is perfect. I feel like nothing else is as good as that :P

Orcs - In most fantasy Orcs are depicted as being used as slaves for physical labor:

Thanks for your reply. Multiple bonus can be good. About changing starting characteristics values (now influenced only by the classes) I'm in doubt but it's probably good.

About humans gold gain increase I don't think is good while the gain of experience could be good but not high (+10% could go well?). Also about increase all characteristics values I am doubtful but maybe it can be fine, but only if the specification will be increased also for all other.

About dwarves increased physical/magical resistance maybe, increased health and/or health regeneration I do not think is good. About mining and/or blacksmith bonus I do not know for sure, I would see them better as miners.

About elves faster traveling seems good (+20% could go well?), increased mana and bonus to magic learning maybe, but mana regeneration I do not think is good.

About undead I specified in more detail the bonus: always resurrection in one hour (or less) and always maximum values after the resurrection. I have no idea at the time, however, other bonuses, perhaps greater physical endurance.

About orcs increased physical strength can be good, increased mining maybe, increased maximum energy and/or energy regeneration I do not think is good.

But perhaps I'll think again about increasing initials health, energy and mana.

I look forward to more comments from other people.

There's no need to have multiple bonuses, I was just listing some ideas. In the end I think it comes down whether you want races to have bonuses that make them directly stronger at a specific thing(or modifying stats) or "utility" bonuses that are representative of that faction and are decent for all classes.

I'm not sure about numbers yet, but in my opinion these could be good: Humans - Increased experience gain(both character experience and "job" experience?) Dwarves - I'm not exactly sure of a utility bonus for dwarves, if we want to leave stats but you liked the increased resistances you could instead reduce all damage taken by a small percentage(including combat and unexpected events while working, etc...) Elves - Faster travelling sounds nice. Undead - Faster resurrection(Resurrecting really quickly and at max health/energy could lead to strange situations such as suiciding instead of resting, it has to be balanced) Orcs - If we want to avoid specific things, I'm not sure about a decent bonus for Orcs... I thought the increased energy looked acceptable.

Also I repeat that all the numbers have to be worked on to make sure it's balanced.

About humans I think to apply bonus only to character experience gained in combact.

About Undeads this can be better? bonus in the resurrection: always resurrection in one hour and minimum values after the resurrection to 75% (instead of 50%)

That sounds better. Another thing that I just thought of: once race bonuses are made, existing characters should have a "race reset" possibility. I myself play more for "stats" than "flavor". It's not really necessary(especially since bonuses are so general that every kind of character can benefit from them) but I think it would be a nice thing to do.
