For the eventual 1.20.5 release, it would be greatly beneficial to have Design Items support having default components. This may come as the mod just setting them along with the design definition as it currently has to, or as true default item ID components if Designs get unique IDs. This suggestion would also close the one about adding custom lore strings to designs, as well as allowing much greater customizability, like making Design Items food items, making Design Items stackable, making Design Items have enchantment glints, allowing designs to have attributes such as damage, etc.
