Rather than planting the currently selected berry (on all plots), it can replace whatever berries are ripe, to maintain a special setup. I don't expect ripening times to be synchronized or anything fancy, I would just toggle the option for harvesting as late as possible. Specifically, EV farming with Rowap and Lum, which wither in 11:48 and 12:00, so the 12 minute difference would accumulate, but I'd deal with that manually.
