Interesting - to narrow down the cause of the issue, do you mind downloading
the .zip
version of namebench?
http://namebench.googlecode.com/files/namebench-1.0.5-Windows.zip
Once extracted, double-click on namebench.exe - I am curious if it gives the
same
error message.

I tried the self extractor at home and it worked fine. Both systems run the
same
version of XP.

I have found a solution for this problem. We need to install VC Redist:

I just downloaded the latest win executable - 1.2 - and got the same.
A more descriptive error message would help. :)

A more descriptive error message would help, but it's not really under my
control. Marking this as Wontfix, since
there is no plans to bundle Microsofts update within namebench due to licensing
constraints.
