Adhere to Different Export Layouts per Tax Site #7

Open kurtgrela opened 2 years ago

kurtgrela commented 2 years ago

Offer multiple export layouts depending on the tax site the person uses:

TaxBit: Sample: CSV layout

Koinly: Sample: CSV layout

ZenLedger: Sample: CSV

Understand the data can only be so accurate. Even after export, there will be some updates that may need to take place.

This is on the roadmap, but probably after a few other things. Sometime soon, RaGe and I can look at the issues list and tag some things in priority order.

Perhaps request for a Stacks grant for this and/or reach out to the tax websites and offer your help. Show them what you have built. I would think they need STX blockchain expertise. Charge a fixed amount and then maintenance fee for edits.

We've thought about a STX grant, just I think neither RaGe nor I want to feel like we have to do a lot of work if we get busy at our day jobs.

I agree that the tax sites would need STX blockchain expertise. I think the Stacks on Chain guy is actually starting to work with them, though I believe we have a much better product than that tax report at the moment.

We just need to prioritize a roadmap and then figure out what steps to take and when.

There are a few people in the community interested in better data reporting data for these sites. Are you in contact with marshall.btc and pomeranian.btc?

I am not in contact with them. Tax site formats are definitely something to look at doing. The three you mentioned would be the highest priorities.

I may find once I dive into these that they are more challenging than they look. I'm not that concerned with getting them into a format, but translating transactions into categories for these sites may actually be a backwards step compared to the export we currently have. I'd be hesitant to actually provide a report if I determine that, because I'd feel responsible for people uploading them and assuming they'd be as accurate as if they used my report and manually converted it to the tax site format via excel.

I know the reason I don't use any of the tax sites personally is because they simply aren't as accurate as I can make it myself and what they buy me doesn't outweigh the headache of dealing with what they can't do.
