Hi, replies and tweets that begin with a twitter handle are not cross-posted. If this happened to you please send me a link to the tweet and the toot that was generated.
Hm, that is not what I'm seeing it do. I just replied to someone on mastodon with a simple @mention followed by "thanks!" and it gets cross-posted to twitter. Of course I just deleted it before checking my github notifications, but let me just try a random @mention that ends up from twitter to mastodon, and vice versa.
Did you start a new toot or reply to an existing message? I do check toots that aren't technically a reply to see if the first character is a @
to catch this case. If you don't mind, please link me to a toot that causes the behavior and I should be able to fix the problem.
This might be fixed now. Previously if your replied to a message that didn't get cross-posted then your reply might go through. Now replies to messages that weren't cross-posted are not cross-posted. If this problem still occurs please reopen this issue
It was a reply to a toot - I haven't seen it pop up again yet, so if I do see it again I'll file a new issue with an actual link to the toot/tweet pair unless you prefer I reopen this one (which I technically can't, I guess, but I can comment on it)
Leaving a comment here is fine. 🙏
It would be super useful if there was a way to indicate that if tweets are replies/directed at twitter users, those tweets shouldn't also be posted on mastodon, where they're basically meaningless posts.
