Rogue, Distract. #1147

Open Bananafish opened 12 years ago

Bananafish commented 12 years ago

I've noticed Distract doesn't work when you use it on a mob who is not in line of sight, I'm not sure if it happens in PvP as well but I wouldn't be surprised. I am mostly sure it's supposed to effect mobs even if you're not in their line of sight but I can't confirm or deny this at the moment so if someone else can that'd be helpful.

wucdbm commented 12 years ago

Desired: the mob should be in LoS with the middle of your distract spell aoe, not with the rogue. same applies to players

zeroxas commented 12 years ago

fake report it's working as it suppose to

Evady commented 12 years ago

No it doesn't. It stops the target, and it's not possible to make someone fall down from a bridge for example. Your enemy should continue running in direction u turned him into. And all AOE spells are broken, they dont affect a target which isn't in los, even if your target stays on it's area in fact.

PossibleFix label given, but no comment from a dev. Removing the label.

Databasegm commented 12 years ago

In essence, the issue is as follows:

When a target is "distracted" he should continue running unless the player stops movement by keyboard/mouse action. The ablity "Distract" should not cause the target to stop movement (like a rooting spell might)

Reproduce: You need 2 clients. Requires 1 rogue and 1 of any other class). I choose warrior.

On rogue: .learn 1725 (Distract) .learn 1787 (Stealth rank 4)

Rogue: Duel the opposing player (if opposite faction, skip this) and stealth. Warrior: Run away from the rogue, turn around and run towards it, toggling autorun (hotkey: numlock) Rogue: cast distract on the ground with the center of the circle away from the warrior (Make sure warrior is still in the area)

Notice that distract causes the warrior to turn towards the center of the circle (correct!) and then stop in place (Incorrect). This is wrong, it should turn towards the center of the circle and continue running in that direction until movement is stopped by the player control.

fixed, will appear on test server soon

Databasegm commented 12 years ago

Fix denied

Distract causes the player to turn towards the center of the circle, run towards it correctly, but then stops in the center. The player should continue to move unless otherwise directed by player controls.

Databasegm commented 12 years ago

Nothing is changed from the previous test. Distracted player still stops in the center of the distract circle.

xmontex commented 12 years ago

need more info with some proofs: 1) does player target move to the the distraction or is he only turned to it (and the movement happens only if player is holding W)? 2) if 1 is true then should player continue past the distraction center or stay at it?

Evady commented 12 years ago

Enemy player moves forward by holding w or on autorun. Rogue uses distract, enemy continues to move, but in other direction untill he changes this "wrong" direction by himself. I found a video on youtube, its from cata, but there were no patches that changed distract pvp mechanics at all, according to wow wiki.

fixed, will appear on test server soon

Databasegm commented 12 years ago

Confirmed, player now moves in the opposite direction until cancelled by player action

Sideways commented 12 years ago

This will be applied with an update tomorrow.

Databasegm commented 12 years ago

Reopening due to an issue discovered with the fix, which is now denied.

xmontex commented 12 years ago

"NPCs and Players who are standing still should face towards the center of the circle, not move to it."

does this happen to both NPCs and players? are you sure NPCs should only turn while standing?

Databasegm commented 12 years ago

Both Players and NPC, yes

xmontex commented 12 years ago

fixed, will appear on test server soon

Humsas commented 12 years ago

Fix denied.

Now players and NPC's face towards center of the circle, but then cast on walking player skill causes server to crash.

ghost commented 11 years ago

Fixed Locally. Will be placed on the PTR soon.

Anelith commented 11 years ago

Denied, still doesn't work on targets out of line of sight

Enerjizz commented 10 years ago

I'll bump this Distract bug report with the following info.

After ingame testing here's what Distract currently does in PvP context, from the distracted player's point of view.

Player is standing still when distracted : -Player's character is turned toward the distract center (correct) -Player's camera is turned toward the distract center (correct)

Player is in autorun when distracted : -Player's character is turned toward the distract center (correct) -Player's character stops immediatly (incorrect) -Player's camera is still facing same direction (incorrect)

Player is manually running when distracted : -Player's character is turned toward the distract center (correct) -Player's camera is still facing same direction, thus character instantly turns back to the initial direction and keeps running this way. (incorrect)

What should happen when player is running (or autorunning) when distracted : -Player's character is turned toward the distract center -Player's camera is turned toward the distract center -No action on character's movement should be taken

Basically the only thing distract is supposed to do is to make character+camera face toward the aimed circle. It's simple really ! It has no action on movement, although the fact that it turns the camera is crucial in pvp because it is precisely what makes it useful against actual players.

Please ask for any further info you'd need to fix the broken spell. Thanks in advance for upcoming fix and GL working on this (and the rest !)

PS : an important information about distract is that it should not have any effect on players (or npcs) if they are currently in combat. This is working as intended on server, but i'd rather write it down so you keep it in mind when attempting fixes. PS2 : Distract not working on targets out of LoS is definitely a minor bug and should imo be ignored until the issues i have detailed are fixed. At the moment Distract is totally broken PvP-wise and is absolutely useless. In PvE it still does the job, allowing rogues to sap in most cases.
